SAE signs BITMi “Code for Sustainability and Digitalization”

Since February 3, 2023 we have committed ourselves with the BITMi Code for Sustainability and Digitalization to continue focusing on climate protection and sustainable digitalization. The Code includes the definition and implementation of specific actions and a continuous improvement of the existing sustainability management.

The Code incorporates three levels of sustainability efforts:

Level 1: Company level – Does the company act sustainably in its direct environment?

As a global technology company, sustainability is an essential part of our corporate strategy. The three pillars of sustainability – ecological, social and economic responsibility – are taken into account in the values of the company. Our procurement guidelines include sustainable product and energy procurement as well as the verification of our suppliers’ sustainability concepts. Numerous other measures, for example saving energy in day-to-day operations and preserving biodiversity on the company site, contribute to our responsible approach.

Level 2: Product level – Is sustainability focused in software development as well as in deployment at the customer?

Thanks to resource-saving hosting, the application’s energy consumption is minimized right from the start. In addition, the application uses low-code principles to reduce the amount of data to be processed and the energy required for storage and archiving. Through bidirectional interfaces, the application is compatible with all common operating systems, thus preventing the creation of data silos and duplicates.

Level 3: Customer level – Does the product help its customers to act more sustainably?

The platform digitalizes the entire quotation process, eliminating manual effort such as searching for information in different systems or paper documentation. Plausibility checks and the structure of the set of rules prevent incorrect quotations and configurations. Wastage of material due to incorrect constructions or incorrect orders is prevented and any reworking is eliminated. By integrating sustainability features in the configuration, the most ecological product variant is always apparent to users. This information can have a significant impact on the decision process.
